My name is Dharma I am 8 years old.....

When I was 5 my daddy died. So I miss him so much. I got a quilt from this website. I am in 3rd grade. My daddy was in Iraq when he died. He was in a pickup truck on the base when it was hit by a rocket, 3 men died and 2 were hurt.

My daddy was a soldier in the Army. My daddy is a hero. He earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star medal. It's been hard not having him home but I'm doing pretty good.

We have a great celebration at our Church for Veteran's day. I have a younger brother and we go to the same school. My favorite subject in school is reading.

I could read all day long and not get bored. I'm about to have surgery next week because I have a really bad cough and sinus problems.. I'm a little scared but mommy say's I get to eat lots of ice cream and smoothies. I'm looking forward to feeling much better so I can get back to school and enjoy recess and Gym again.

I just did Jump rope for Heart to help people with heart problems and I'm very proud to say I raised $131.00. Thank you Debbie Elam for helping me reach my goal. I feel bad for others that have also lost a family member.

Brooke was 8 years old when her father passed. The last time she got to talk to him was on Christmas Day 2004. Her father was buried at Arlington on Jan. 10th 2005. Brooke was very quiet all day long and had such a somber look to her.

She really didn't express out loud any of her feelings until sometime had passed. It took her a few months before she was ready to go visit his grave site.

On Father's Day 2005 Brooke joined Sons and Daughters in Touch (adults who lost their parents in Vietnam) at the Wall and she said the Pledge of Allegiance.

It was good for her to see adults who have been through what she has. She is also a part of TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors). This is a great non-profit organization that helps those who have lost a loved one in the military.
